I promised some pix of the ice storm and here they are. I do hope you can click on them and enlarge them.

The above pix show the tree that is on our house. Yep it is still there because no one has had time to come and tell us how much it will cost to get it off. You know it don’t really matter cause it has to come off the house. Someone is supposed to be here tomorrow.

The first two from the left were taken looking out my front door. The one on the far right is the dogwood tree in front of my studio. Every limb is laying on the ground. All the ice melted off it Saturday and today all the limbs are back to normal. I am so happy as I love to watch that tree change through the seasons.

The last two were taken looking out my back door. See those two heavy power lines? Right after I took the picture they pulled two poles down and were on the ground. They didn’t take our power out though cause it was all ready off!!!

I hope you enjoyed the tour and I am so happy to be back online and have lights, telephone, tv, etc, but you get the idea.

I hope all of you have a great week.

I’m baaaaaaaaack!!!!!!!!!!

February 2, 2009

We lost our power last Tuesday and it just came on about 30 minutes ago. I am so happy. We have some damage from a tree falling on our house but it isn’t major damage and I am so happy. I will post pix later but now I have to go read blogs!!!!!!!

Work in progress Wednesday

January 7, 2009

The website, MQR has a WIP Wednesday so I thought I would post what I am working on. I have started a Scrappy Maple Leaf quilt and I have the center done. I have two borders to sew on then quilt it.

wednesday-wip-001  This quilt was calling my name and I really like it.

I know that green, purple and pink aren’t the popular colors today but I have been looking for a pattern to use these colors in. The other day I found it thanks to someone from MQR. I am sorry but I forgot her name. It is called Diamond Strings and it is on Bonnie Hunter’s site.

wednesday-wip-002

I love this even though the colors are a little dark in the picture. I’m going to make it for my 7 year old granddaughter for Christmas, she will be 8 by then. It just screams little girl to me.

I got my orientation done yesterday for my new job and got my first paycheck today. Life is good. lol

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day and have some works in progress that make you happy.

Long, picture heavy, Sunday Post

December 21, 2008

I hope all of you are having a great weekend. It is cold here but it’s a beautiful, sunshining day. I finished my Eleanor Burns quilt this week and waiting for it to be picked up. I love the colors in it. I quilted it with the panto, Fantasia by Hermoine Agee. I really love how it looks. I used Maxi Lock Snomoon.

I hope you can click on them to enlarge them. I used Randi’s tip but if anyone can mess something up it is me.

Here is pix of the Logs and Swirling Leaves quilt I made for my son’s in laws. I love how it turned out. I quilted it in freehand swirls but I made them big so they look like spirals. I used Maxi Lock Mother Goose.

I love, love, love how it looks on the back.

A few days ago I responded to a post from Vicki about some garment sewing I had done years ago. She suggested I post about it so here it is. When my niece Tabatha Leigh Cooksey, was a little over a year old I picked up her one day, which I did alot, dressed her up in a red velvet dress with white pinafore that I had made and took her to get her picture made as a surprize gift for her Mother & Grandmother for Christmas, 1984.

Isn’t she a doll?

cornerstones-009 She still is but now she has to little boys of her own.

To show how big a surprize it was, look at this.

cornerstones-010

That is my dear Mother on the left and Tabatha’s Mother, Judy, on the right. I think they must have been catching flies as wide as their mouth is.

Here is the tears picture. We did not know when this picture was taken that less than 5 years later my Mother would pass away from cancer at the too young age of 57, the age I am now.

cornerstones-012

I also made a dress for her to wear to my Brother’s wedding. It was just a simple A line made from blue dotted swiss. I then attached lace and ribbon across the shoulders and three layers of wide lace on the body in a fake pinafore look. I couldn’t get it to hang like I wanted to until I washed it, then it looked exactly how I pictured it. You can’t really see it in this pic but I thought it was cute anyway.

cornerstones-013

My sister’s oldest daughter, Cheri Renea, is on the left, Judy and Tabatha.

Here is a pic of my brother Steve and Tabatha taken the day of his wedding, April 21, 1984.

cornerstones-006

My brother was killed August 10, 1991, in a 18 wheeler wreck in Nashville, Tn, the day before my 40th birthday. He was just 30 years old.He left behind a wife and 2 daughters, age 5 and 3. They have become beautiful young ladies that he would be very proud of.

Well, I guess that is all I have to share today. I hope I didn’t bore you too much. Hope all of you are ready for Santa and stay warm, wherever you are.

This and that Saturday

December 6, 2008

I hope all of you are having a good weekend. I have been working on my turquoise and brown Cornerstones quilt by Eleanor Burns.  I am getting it ready to quilt. I sort of have an idea what I am going to with it.

I don’t know how how you decide what quilt to do next or next or next, there is always a next quilt isn’t there?  Mine are usually decided for me cause I see it and know that is what I need to make. Here is a pic of my next project, like I really need one.

plants-0032

For some reason this quilt is calling to me and I have already got my fabrics picked out.

When my BIL died the fire department that my nephew belongs to sent a basket of plants. My nephew wanted us to have them so we brought them home with us. Here is the basket.

plants-0022Now I am hoping that some of you smart people can tell me what this plant is.

plants-0012   The long, spikey red and green leaves have me stumped. I have no idea what it is.

Now just for some fun, I wanted to show you my new houseshoes. I don’t really consider myself a pink heart and sequins kind of person but they were just calling my name as I walked by.

plants-0042 Now, aren’t they cute?

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and have some fun too.

Happy Thanksgiving

November 26, 2008

I want to tell all of you Happy Thanksgiving. Lynn and I will be leaving in the morning for Section, Alabama as my BIL Ted McGaugh died yesterday from liver cancer. Try not to eat too much. I won’t be home until Monday afternoon so I will be quiet.

What a week

November 20, 2008

This is going to be one of the saddest post I have ever done. Some of you know that a good friend of ours, Randall Tate, died Sunday morning from pancreatic cancer. Lynn’s oldest sister, Mary, who lives in Section, Alabama has had to put her husband,Ted, in the hospital at Huntsville. He has liver cancer, the tumor is the size of a small basketball. He is in ICU and they don’t expect him to live very long. Mary wants to take him home and with the help of Hospice let him be at home when his time on this earth is done. I can’t even imagine how she is going to get through this. We visited them in August so I will have those good memories.

As if that isn’t enough another friend, Danny, who is in our car club was diagnosed yesterday with carcinoma lung cancer. I guess as we get older, I am 57, we all have friends and relatives that pass away but they just seem so young. I’m not ready to let any of them go but I don’t guess we ever are.

Thanks for letting me talk about this.
